During her speech at the February 2024-held Grammy Awards after winning Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, Taylor Swift made a surprise announcement that she would soon be debuting her next album. Swift also confirmed that the album would be titled The Tortured Poets Department, with some featured singers and song titles soon being announced. The “All Too Well” singer and lyricist also explained that she began planning The Tortured Poets Department shortly after the release of Midnights, and the artist wrote and developed the album while on the 2023-2024 Eras Tour.

Fans won’t have to wait long after The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) movie’s Disney+ premiere on March 14 for another big Taylor Swift release. The multi-Grammy winner confirmed that The Tortured Poets Department will be released on Friday, April 19, 2024, presumably at midnight ET. This means her 11th album is arriving just 18 months after Midnights, and only six months after the release of her 1989 (Taylor’s Version) re-recording.
Taylor Swift’s new album releases have been reported to cause some issues with music streaming platforms due to the high volume of listeners at once. Consequently, fans shouldn’t be too alarmed if they have immediate trouble trying to listen to The Tortured Poets Department on platforms like Spotify. Regardless, the album will be available to listen to on music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music on April 19.

The song titles for The Tortured Poets Department tease some promising new tracks, which are certain to send Taylor Swift fans on a hunt for Easter eggs and hidden references in her lyrics. There are 16 confirmed songs on each edition of The Tortured Poets Department, which is three more songs than the original version of Midnights. Taylor Swift has also confirmed there will be four physical editions of The Tortured Poets Department, with each edition including one different bonus song on the tracklist. Additionally, the tracklist includes songs with collaborations by rapper Post Malone and indie rock band Florence and the Machine.
