Paige Spiranac has defended golfer Rory McIlroy following his agonizing blunder at the US Open which cost him his chance of winning a Major.
The four-time Major winner looked to be on the verge of adding a fifth title to his trophy cabinet with a straightforward putt on the green of the 18th hole, but he fluffed his lines and handed Bryson DeChambeau the chance to sink the par putt to claim the title.
McIlroy was in no mood to stick around and made an immediate exit in an official transportation vehicle from Pinehurst, refusing to face the media after another devastating defeat.
The 35-year-old was widely criticized for failing to face up to his mistakes and congratulate his opponent, especially after such a close finish to the tournament.
But Spiranac, a former golf pro herself who turned to Instagram to become a famous influencer with over four million followers, jumped to McIlroy’s defense and claimed she didn’t care that he made a swift exit.
