The ‘Queen of Latin Music’ Shakira’s evergreen pop number ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ is not only everyone’s go-to song when looking to get down on the dance floor, but it is also an actual lifesaver.
The Colombian singer’s iconic pop song has 100 beats per minute, the right tempo for hands-only CPR, as per the American Heart Association. “Hands-Only CPR can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival,” it said.
Hands-only CPR, also known as compression-only CPR, refers to cardiopulmonary resuscitation performed without rescue breaths. It basically involves giving continuous chest compressions to a person who has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
“Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique. It aims to keep blood and oxygen flowing through the body when a person’s heart and breathing have stopped,” as per a Healthline report.
CPR is an aid offered to people experiencing cardiac arrest. A heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked, but the person is still conscious and not yet in cardiac arrest. Someone experiencing a heart attack may go into cardiac arrest and should go to the hospital immediately.
