Bryson DeChambeau arguably capped off his impressive redemption arc with a win at the U.S. Open on Sunday, and while most golf fans have done a 180 when it comes to their opinion of a man who was once anything but a fan favorite, it doesn’t appear Brandel Chamblee is one of them.
At this point, I’d argue Bryson DeChambeau has cemented himself as the Guy Fieri of golf based on his ability to win over people who previously had a hard time cheering for him for a variety of reasons.
As ridiculous as it may sound, his decision to abandon the flat cap (a.k.a. driving or ivy cap) that he claims was a tribute to Payne Stewart definitely had a significant impact on the turning of the tides. You also can’t overlook the YouTube videos that have allowed him to show off his affable nature while affirming the analytical approach to golf that came off as a bit try-hard to many is really just engrained in his personality.
You have to imagine DeChambeau’s reinvention has pleased the powers that be at LIV Golf, an organization that needs all of the help it can get on the public relations front thanks in no small part to critics like Brandel Chamblee, the NBC Sports analyst who has been one of its most vocal detractors.
