Why Azealia Banks thinks Sabrina Carpenter is Taylor Swift’s replacement

The Harlem rapper has a few thoughts on who’s coming for Taylor Swift‘s spot.

Over the weekend, Azealia Banks took to X to give her A&R thoughts on several artists that her fans were asking her about. From Lorde and Charli XCX‘s “girl, so confusing” remix to Beyoncé‘s Cowboy Carter, Banks took shots at multiple, bright stars in the music industry. And she did not mince her words when it came to Taylor Swift.

Banks was asked to give her thoughts on Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan. She let out a stream of consciousness on why Carpenter is essentially Taylor Swift’s replacement.

“I haven’t heard any Sabrina Carpenter stuff yet, but looks like the industry to trying to prep her for the eventual and imminent destruction/disposal of Taylor Swift,” Banks wrote. “It’s pretty obvious. Scooter Braun and all them dudes are evil as hell and hate how she [destroyed] their money bag by re-releasing re-records. So they’re definitely devising some really f*cked up plan to find legal loopholes in which they can sue her into poverty/imprison her or worse.”

Well, that’s a mouthful. Before Banks told Swift that she needs “cozy up to [Donald] Trump,” she claimed that Carpenter is being prepped to replace Swift, much to the chagrin of Swifties all over. And even worse, at the hands of Scooter Braun, former artist manager for singers like Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and Kanye West, and owner of Swift’s former label, Big Machine Records, which sparked Swift album re-recording process.

Carpenter, who’s besties with Swift has gushed openly about her relationship with the “Fortnight” singer. She also clarified that there’s no competition, nor bad blood between the two when she did a Skims campaign. The shapewear brand is owned by Kim Kardashian, someone who famously had beef with Swift.

“As much as people want to believe you’re tuned into every little thing, I’m not because I’m constantly working,” Carpenter said for Rolling Stone. In that scenario, I’ve been very, very communicative with her about that situation, and I just love her so much and support her till the end. So it was no weirdness for me, but I know people will just say things because that’s all they have time to do.”

While Banks hasn’t checked out Carpenter’s discography, fans have been enjoying her comedic, confessional brand of pop since her time on Girl Meets World. The Disney star has released four albums so far, including Eyes Wide Open, Evolution, Singular: Act I, and Singular: Act I, but her upcoming album Short N’ Sweet houses her most famous singles, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” With opener performances for Swift and Grande, a Saturday Night Live performance, and spots at Governor’s Ball and Coachella, Carpenter’s music continues gain broader reach.

And after listening to Carpenter’s discography, one can tell that two artists are in two artistic avenues. There’s room for them both. And there’s also room for Roan, who Banks doted on in another set of X posts.

“Ok no Chappell is like sooooooooooooooooo sweeetie pie,” Banks wrote. “When she cried on stage at gov ball i was sobbing so hard. And she really is in her womanness. Shes like Stevie Nicks, [Rocky Horror Picture Show], Joan Jett, Teena Marie, Belinda Carlisle all in one. Most excited for the Teena Marie of it.”
